Golf Outing Pays Tribute to Matty Pellegrinelli, Inspiration and Friend

June 03, 2019

Our 21st Annual Charity Golf Outing is dedicated to the memory of Matthew Pellegrinelli, who passed away suddenly on May 15, 2019 at the age of 24.

This loss hits close to home for the staff and board of Autism New Jersey, and especially our Golf Committee. Matty’s father, Steve, along with several other “autism dads,” founded the golf outing more than two decades ago as a way to give back. It was more than a group of golf-loving guys planning a fundraising event. The committee Steve has chaired for 20+ years became an unofficial support group. A family. A brotherhood sharing a common bond and experiencing the trials and triumphs of raising a child with autism together.

From time to time, Matty would join the committee at our dinner meetings, enjoying chicken fingers and french fries. He’d attend the event on occasion, too. His presence a reminder of the true purpose of the outing.

Our hearts ache for Matty’s dad, Steve, his mom, Nancy, his brother, Joe, his sister, Kristen, and his extended family and friends who loved him so.

We hope they take comfort in knowing that Matty will continue to inspire us all to be more patient, determined and kind and to redouble our efforts to build brighter futures for individuals with autism.
