Childhood is where we form many of the habits that we carry throughout our lives.
It is important to teach kids how a simple act of KINDNESS can impact others. We ask teachers and parents to encourage them to ask questions when they don’t understand something and that it is OK to be different.
Acts of Kindness
During the School Day
It’s amazing how quickly word travels in schools. Let’s give them something to talk about!
Hang posters in the halls to let everyone know April is Autism Awareness Month. Take it a step further: Organize an awareness-themed, classroom door decorating contest – winning class gets a pajama day!
READ ALL ABOUT IT
Choose a kid-friendly book about autism to read to your class or a younger class and pass out Kids Booklets for fun Autism Awareness activities.
MAKE A FRIEND
Invite a friend who is different than you to sit with you at lunch or play during recess. If you’re not sure who to ask or what the person likes, ask a teacher for some help.
Participate in our Contests
The winning design will be used for the 2020 Autism Ambassador Program Bookmark! 30,000 will be printed and distributed throughout New Jersey.
SIBLING ESSAY CONTEST
Sibling Connections are so important. Winning entries will be invited to read their essay at an Autism New Jersey event.
GET YOUR BAKE ON
Ask permission to plan a bake sale at your school on a Friday afternoon. Spread the word with flyers and ask students to bake their favorite dessert for autism awareness month. Don’t forget to decorate your table with awareness balloons and decorations!
CHANGE FOR AUTISM
Ask each class to fill a class jar with loose change throughout the month of April. Come up with a fun prize for the class who raises the most money for autism.
INK FOR AUTISM
Sell Autism Awareness temporary tattoos. Pick a day everyone will come to school wearing their temporary ink. Take pictures!
