Autism New Jersey’s 50 Years of Service Recognized by NJ Senate

July 24, 2015

Trenton, NJ – Yesterday, New Jersey Senate President Stephen Sweeney (D-3) and Senator Linda Greenstein (D-14) introduced a resolution recognizing the 50th anniversary of Autism New Jersey and acknowledged the agency’s tireless advocacy and support of New Jersey’s autism community.

“The strength and success of the State of New Jersey, the vitality of its communities, and the effectiveness of our American society depend, in great measure, upon concerned and committed organizations, exemplified by Autism New Jersey,” Sweeney stated.

Since its inception in 1965, Autism New Jersey has supported the expanding needs of people with autism, the professionals who work with them and the families who love them. The agency serves as a collective and influential voice for the community through its clinical expertise, awareness, education, and public policy initiatives.

“We are honored to be recognized by the Senate for our 50 years of support to the autism community,” said Autism New Jersey Executive Director Dr. Suzanne Buchanan. “We’ve had the privilege of working with some of the most influential policy makers who have made New Jersey’s autism community a priority. Their leadership and support have made a significant and lasting impact over the past five decades, and we look forward to future collaboration to increase the availability and quality of services for our community.”

During their 50th anniversary year, Autism New Jersey is dedicating funds raised by the “Brighter Beginnings, Brighter Future” Campaign and 50th Anniversary Gala to help invest in the organization’s long-term sustainability, with a special emphasis on enhancing their adult services initiatives. The agency’s goal via these efforts is to achieve measurable and meaningful improvements in the life of every adult with autism in New Jersey.
